Cold Laser Therapy
Your Poway chiropractor recommends cold laser therapy to relieve many painful musculoskeletal conditions without surgery or pain medications. With the ability to reduce or even eliminate the pain and stiffness of soft tissue injuries or diseases by stimulating the natural ability of your body to heal itself, cold laser therapy works by promoting release of curative substances such an endorphins and anabolic hormones at the cellular level.
Noninvasive and painless, a cold laser therapy session takes less than 30 minutes to complete, with most people experiencing noticeable results following one treatment session.

Cold laser therapy (CLT) combines state-of-the-art laser technology and restorative electric stimulation of injured tissue to increase metabolic and cell activity and to induce vasodilation for stimulating blood flow to damaged tissues. In addition, CLT stimulates fibroblast development to enhance collagen synthesis for healing of mild to moderate postoperative wounds. Additionally, cold laser photons inhibit scar tissue formation so that wounds affecting joints do not experience motion restriction due to excessive build-up of scar tissue.
Also called low-level laser therapy, CLT uses specific wavelengths of LED (light-emitting diodes) to jumpstart cellular processes within inflamed tissues and reduce levels of specific hormones implicated in inflammation and pain. Cold laser therapy also increases production of ATP, a chemical that facilitates growth of new cells for fighting inflammation and naturally healing injured muscles.
Your Poway chiropractor recommends cold laser therapy for revitalizing protein synthesis, promoting circulation of lymphatic fluid and improving angiogenesis, or the level of oxygen saturation in the bloodstream. Moreover, the FDA has classified cold lasers as “Class 3A low level lasers”, which officially classifies low-level lasers as painless, non-cutting, non-burning forms of wavelength-based, holistically therapeutic lasers.
Cold laser therapy can reduce pain, swelling and inflammation associated with:
- Muscle/ligament sprains and strains
- Arthritis/osteoarthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Tendonitis
- Plantar fasciitis
- Elbow and knee bursitis
- Neck and back pain
- Trigeminal neuralgia
- Neuropathies/radiculopathies
If you suffer conditions not listed above ask your Poway chiropractor whether CLT can help your particular injury or soft tissue disease.
Low level light energy is transmitted by a handheld device about the size of a household flashlight. Multiple laser wavelengths may be used simultaneously, depending on the severity of the tissue injury. Non-thermal light photons are emitted by the device and pass through the dermis, epidermis and the subcutaneous tissue or tissue fat under the skin. This light has the ability to penetrate two to four inches below the skin. Once light energy passes through the layers of skin and reaches targeted areas, it interacts with light sensitive components in cells to encourage increased activity.
CLT also has significant effects on the mitochondria of the cell. When penetrating beams of the low level laser stimulates mitochondria, energy production is rapidly increased.
In addition to being safe, easily applicable and totally non-invasive, cold laser therapy also produces no side effects, is an affordable method for treating chronic pain and has a 98 percent efficacy rate on most musculoskeletal conditions. Your Poway chiropractor may improve on the healing properties of cold laser therapy by complementing sessions with chiropractic adjustment and manipulation, massage therapy or spinal decompression
